Boldness Be Friend Richard Pape

Boldness Be Friend Richard Pape

Aggressive, impetuous, and dauntless, Richard Pape was never going to sit out the war in a Nazi prison. Captured after going on the run when his bomber crashed in occupied Holland, his thoughts turned, at once, to escape. In the most appalling of conditions, he did not give way. Not only did he send more than 100 coded messages to the War Office, but he also swapped identities with a fellow prisoner to make a breakout. His unbelievable escape was only the beginning of his struggle for freedom. Hunted by the Nazis throughout Europe, for Pape surrender was never an option.
Review’It’s an extraordinary story of British pluck but also very moving. Pape pulled through torture by the Gestapo but a heap of of those who helped him weren’t so lucky’ — Mail on Sunday 20080615

5World War II escape and underground intrigue
By A
True story firstborn person page turner regarding a British RAF pilot shot down for the duration of WWII and his accounts of being captured, escaped, captured again and escaped for a third time. Brillantly written, taking you on an all over occupied Europe underground suspence story of bravado and heroism

5Stunning masterwork of determination
By Mr. T. Bailie
Without doubt one of the best written works to have been published on this subject. A arousing and attention holding first-hand description of war-torn occupied Europe. Being shot down; evading capture; POW camp; interrogation; three escapes; gestapo torture – no novel could equivalent Pape’s extraordinary tale of survival.
I picked up a copy of this biography merely because, (like my late uncle Jack), Pape was a Yorkshire lad, and an RAF navigator. I started out to read the book thinking it would be yet another ego trip by a good deal of unemployed former serviceman, but i was unable to put it down. I am gutted now it is finished and his story has been told.

5Great story
By B. Willis
I have read when it comes to 50 POW escape books, most from WW2. This guy was tough. Most of the escapers are amazing people. I think most the escape books have more humor than this one. Richard Pape wasn’t regarding being amusive he was determined to escape at all costs.
